PTFE O-Rings

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene that has numerous applications.

PTFE O-RINGS

PTFE O-Rings Description:

PTFE is hydrophobic: neither water nor water-containing substances wet PTFE, as fluorocarbons demonstrate mitigated London dispersion forces due to the high electronegativity of fluorine. PTFE has one of the lowest coefficients of friction against any solid.

PTFE O-Rings Properties:

Good Wear Resistance, Low Coefficient of Friction

PTFE O-Rings Temperature Range:

-250ºF to 450ºF

PTFE O-Rings Not Recommended For:

Non-Elastic

PTFE O-Rings Recommended For:

Chemical Resistance, Fuel Resistance, Low Coefficient of Friction

PTFE has been used for many purposes, below are a few examples we have seen over the years of calling on Industrial companies over the years.

PTFE O-Rings – Ideal for Food and Chemical applications

PTFE Gaskets – And Gasket Materials have solved difficult applications in the sealing industry. Clean and resistant to high heat makes it suitable for food and semiconductor applications as well as Refining, Chemical and Power Generation.

PTFE coatings – Allow any metal to be coated to extend the life of the part or protect it from attack. Coatings on Pump Parts, Bearings, Machined Parts and Seals. PTFE added within seal materials such as graphite improve it’s sealing characteristics and allowing containment of Volatile Organic Chemical Compounds.

PTFE Roofing – Was added to the list of applications due to UV resistance.

PTFE Coated Cloth – Adding weathering resistance to fabrics.

PTFE Packings – Pumps and Valves need to be sealed. Containment of chemicals permit, companies to manufacture their product in a plant located close to populated areas. There are many various styles of PTFE based packings including EPTFE and FEP styles.

PTFE Lubricants – From products like motor engine lubricants to grease, PTFE lubricants extend the life of equipment by greatly reducing frictional wear.

PTFE Insulators – PTFE parts, cloth, gaskets and o-rings are use to insulate by greatly reducing electrical conductivity.

Energy Sector PTFE uses
Solar panel equipment can benefit from industrial PTFE coatings, using it for corrosion resistance on the frame, and as an insulator within the panels.

Food Industry PTFE Applications that require clean non-hazardous release agents, means
PTFE can be used in chocolate or other food molds. Of course we all know it’s great on pots and pans.

PTFE in the Construction Trade means Tools and drill parts can be coated with PTFE to help them cut faster and resist wear and rust.

PTFE Coatings in Personal Care Products including irons and curling irons.

PTFE Coating Uses For Automakers and Car Part Manufacturing
Carburetor parts, automotive plungers, bypass shafts and sleeves may be coated with PTFE

Commercial and Retail PTFE Coating Services – Paints with PTFE to prevent “tagging” have been utilized. Building escalators have PTFE coated kick panels to prevent rusting shut.

PTFE Coating Uses in the Safety and Security Market
Door latches, lock parts and hinge pins can be coated with PTFE

Appliances PTFE Coated Kitchenware
ptfe coatings are applied to coffee maker parts, microwave dishes and ice cube trays

Pet toys and dishes can be coated with PTFE to help to keep surfaces clean and safe for pets.
