O-RINGS & TYPES OF O-RINGS

O-rings are the most common method of creating a seal. From deep water applications to the space shuttle, O-rings can be found high and low. O-rings seal liquids and gases well. As a result they are used in every industrial plant, automobile, airplanes, paint guns, oxygen tanks, military tanks, and a few teenagers wrists.

There are different types of O-rings available in the market, which are made with a wide range of materials. Each material has its own set of pros and cons.

Choosing the right material largely depends on the application the things that must be considered are: Size, temperature, application, media, pressure and speed (if the application is dynamic). The amount of pressure an O-ring can maintain depends on how it is mounted. The best method for containing an O-ring is to have a groove with the appropriate depth for the O-ring to surround it on 3 sides. An opposing flange or tongue in groove shape often supplies the 4th side.
